Went to Store #04063 on November 30, 2019 to buy a lighter. The store is about a block away from where I live, so I decided to walk. It was a very cold morning, so I bundled up in a coat, hat and gloves and put just over $2.00 in change in my coat pocket to pay for the Bic Lighter. I get to the store and go immediately up to the front counter as that is where they usually are - displayed as an impulse item. I didn't see any full size Bics at that particular register, only the mini ones, so I asked the clerk, who couldn't have been more than 18, who was sweeping right by me where I could find the regular sized Bics. She went to another register and grabbed a couple and handed them to me and I thanked her and asked how much, with tax it would come to and she said around $2.65 in total. I wasn't sure if I had brought enough change with me so I brought it out of my pocket and put it on the counter and started counting it. The clerk then called another employee over to ring me up. She, too, looked to be very young. I got done counting and waited for her to give me a price, but she hadn't rung it up. Instead, she says "I am going to need to see some I.D." I said "Are you serious?!" to which the other clerk said "Yeah" (this is the same clerk who handed me the lighter to be rung up!) I told them both that I am 55 years old and have never been asked for I.D. for a LIGHTER and that the only reason they were asking me for I.D. is because they assumed I am homeless (we have a lot of homeless in that neighborhood) because I didn't have a purse and had change (it turns out I did have enough change to buy the lighter). SO THESE SNOTTY *** MEAN GIRLS WOULD NOT SELL ME THE LIGHTER!!! I don't look even close to 40, let alone 18!! These snot nosed punks thought it was funny! What will be real funny is when their parents and Rite Aid hear from my attorney! That was blatant malicious discrimination and I did nothing to deserve that. BITE ME RITE AID!!!!! Take your overpriced lighter and shove it up your corporate (and your entitled mean girl clerks) A@@@!!!!! There isn't even a law requiring I.D. to buy a LIGHTER in Washington State. If it is Rite Aid policy to card for a LIGHTER, then they have to card EVERYBODY who goes to purchase a LIGHTER regardless of age or they have discriminated against me because there was no question that I was over 18 so there was no need to card me and certainly no need to refuse to sell me a LIGHTER!!!
